2013 Great Britain Queen's Coronation 5 Pound Piedfort Commemorative Coin issued by the Royal Mint. 60th Anniversary of the Queen's Coronation. Released a very Limited Issue. Sealed in it's original capsule, this Gem Proof Coin weighs 56.56 grams and is 38.61mm in diameter, instead of 28.28 grams like the regular issue. With a total mintage of only 3,250 struck, it comes in it's original Royal Mint hinged box with an incuse stamped name of "The Royal Mint" on the top and certificate of authenticity (#1613).
These are placed inside the original cardboard box with "The Royal Mint" embossed in silver lettering on the top. Outer cardboard box is a lightly scuffed on the outside.The reverse depicts the Imperial State Crown. The obverse has the stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley. Piedforts are coins which have been specially struck on thicker than normal blanks. As their name suggests they are closely associated with France, where from the twelfth century they were apparently issued by the Kings as presentation pieces. In Britain the practice of striking piedforts is later and less frequent, but medieval and Tudor examples are known.
