A Rare Cased Queen Elizabeth II Hallmarked Sterling Silver Wine Ewer by Garrard & Co. The Wine Ewer is 11 1/2" in height and 6 7/8" in length (handle to spout) and a diameter to the base of 3 7/8" and a diameter to the body of 4 3/4". The Ewer has a substantial weight of 33.2 oz or 944 grams.
The Wine Ewer or Claret Jug is just Stunning and stands on a raised circular base which has a superb Cast Band of Foliate Leaf work and Bunched Grapes round the circumference with a beaded band above of with a bulbous body and squat neck and a high formed spout with the looped "C" shaped handle having ribbed work and ducks bill mounts. The Body and Neck of the Ewer has stunning engraved foliate and flower work with a further applied cast band of Foliate work and Bunched Grapes to the upper body and engraved with the Royal Crown and Cypher for the Queen and Price Phillips Silver Wedding 1947 - 1972.
The Wine Ewer is a Limited Edition Piece of 250 with this one bearing the Number 24 to the inside of the base. The Fitted Case is 12 3/4" in length with a width of 7 3/4" and a height of 5 1/4 beautifully fitted inside to hold the Ewer with a padded silk lining to the lid. The Wine Ewer is in Excellent Condition.
Makers Mark - G & Co Ld. Lion Passant - Sterling Mark. Town Mark - Leopards Head - London. Date Letter - r - 1972. Also Marked to the centre for Garrard London with the Number 24 to the outer edge.
